Please demonstrate and submit written documentation of the following:

  • Master of Social Work Diploma. Provide a copy of your Master of Social Work diploma (MSW//MSSW/MSSA) from a Council on Social Work Education accredited (CSWE) program. Non-CSWE accredited MSW program degrees and MSW schools/programs in candidacy are not eligible for OSW-C. Transcripts which are both certified with a university seal/stamp and which indicate that a degree was conferred are also acceptable documentation.
  • Paid Oncology Social Work Experience. All applicants must have at least 6,240 hours of paid MSW social work experience post master’s degree specifically in Oncology Social Work within the most recent 5 years. Non-oncology social work experience, volunteer work, internships and any other non-employed work experience do not count toward the 6,240 hours.
  • Current Oncology Social Work Position: Verify that you meet the following criteria. Please check one of the following appropriate categories which describes your current oncology social work position:
Oncology social work loads of less than 20 paid hours per week do not meet the criteria for OSW-C.

PLAN NOW FOR RENEWAL

  • Proof of a minimum of 20 hours of CEUs must be earned and submitted within each two-year renewal cycle. The CEUs must have specific oncology, palliative care or end of life care content and learning objectives. Please see on-line renewal application for further specific details regarding qualified CEUs. CEUs can be obtained from, but not limited to,  AOSW, ACS, APOSW, Cancer Care, ACCC, NHPCO, NASW, ONS, and APOS. CEUs may be earned in person or online. Please see FAQ section for information about CEUs for renewal.

  • CEUs must be earned during the two years of your renewal cycle. For example, if your OSW-C expires on 5/31/18, you must earn CEUs between 5/31/16 – 5/31/18 for your renewal.

  • General CEU topics regarding depression and anxiety do not count for this certification requirement unless taught for specific oncology population.
  • CEU certificates from these programs must be in English and enclosed or attached with the renewal application. They are the only acceptable documentation to verify required CEU criteria.
  • Annual hospital safety programs, Tumor Boards, journal clubs, care conferences, staff meetings, team meetings, Rounds (including Schwartz Rounds and/or Cancer Committee meetings do not count towards CEU requirements, unless social work CEUs have been approved for the presentation.

  • You must demonstrate involvement in at least two oncology related community and/or leadership activities.
  • You must maintain a state social work license.
